As anyone who has been lucky enough to enjoy a boat and bike tour on the mighty Danube River aboard either the MS Normandie, MS My Story or the MS Theodor Korner will eagerly tell you, all three barges provide the ticket to the ultimate in cycling holidays.
Far from providing just another cycling holiday, a Boat and Bike Tours-organised holiday on the Danube effectively provides the best cycling holiday experience money can buy.
Cycle along Europe’s best-known and most loved cycling route during the day and enjoy the ultimate in on-board luxury aboard your floating hotel during the evening – does it get any better than that?
Depending on the date of the tour you book, you can choose a cycle tour aboard either the MS Normandie, MS My Story or MS Theodor Korner sailing between Passau in Germany to Vienna in Austria or a four country – three Metropolis super tour that takes you through four of Europe’s most enchanting countries — Austria and its capital Vienna, Germany and the famous city of Passau, Hungary and its capital of Budapest and Slovakia and its capital Bratislava.
No matter what your choice, you will be enchanted by not only the cycling and the experiences associated with living onboard your floating hotel for a week, but the Danube River itself.
For those who choose a cycle tour along the section of the Danube between Passau and Vienna a special treat is in store. This section of the Danube is widely considered to provide some of the most scenic cycling anywhere in Europe.
No other section of the river offers such a diverse range of landscapes and cultural landmarks or as many historical sites to explore. Historical abbeys stand side by side with picturesque farms, breathtaking valleys and fertile countryside.
And best of all everything the Danube has to offer can be savoured while you cycle along the flat, well paved cycle paths and lightly used country roads alongside the river.
Along the way you will see for yourself the ‘Great Loop’at Schlogen, the famous abbey at Melk, the romantic wine producing region of Wachau, castles and fortresses and much, much more.
Throw into the mix the opportunity to explore Passau, the Bavarian city of three rivers, the World Heritage Site of Wachau and the cosmopolitan city of Vienna with its plethora of sights and fascinating history and the Passau to Vienna tour is one not to be missed.
For cycle tourists keen to explore the Danube beyond Vienna, the Four Country – Three Metropolis Super Tour is definitely the way to go.
In addition to all of the beautiful sights and history to be discovered in the Passau to Vienna section of the Danube, you will also discover the little wilder but just as interesting section of the Danube that flows through Slovakia and Hungary.
Cycle along excellent cycling paths past postcard perfect villages and culturally interesting towns before exploring Budapest’s Imperial and Art Nouveau delights and Bratislava’s Baroque and Gothic buildings and fountains.
And after a great day of cycling you can relax each night onboard your floating hotel along with your new cycling friends while listening to live music or by taking the opportunity to discover the port city you have berthed at for the night.
Along the way the majestic Danube will be a constant presence, with its beauty, history and charm guaranteed to ensure you will enjoy a cycling holiday of a lifetime.
