At Boat Bike Tours we run multi-day cycling cruises that take you by boat and bike through some of Europe’s most spectacular (and romantic) landscapes.
It’s that time of year again, mid-February, when many people’s thoughts turn to the art of the romantic gesture. There are so many ways to express your appreciation for the one you love. For some, a romantic gesture means candlelit dinners, a bouquet or a surprise gift; for others it may be just a simple kiss, hug, or “I love you”.
For those who like to take yet another approach, and combine their amorous gesture with travel, we’ve compiled three of our most romantic tours to help inspire you for a romantic getaway.

Three tours for romantic travel lovers
We selected these three cycling cruises because they take you through cities, towns and landscapes that all evoke beauty and romance in their own unique way.
1. The magical champagne: Paris – Paris
This interesting 15 day roundtrip starts and ends in Paris, the famous capital of France, not far from the Notre Dame. We follow the Seine downstream passing the Louvre and the Eiffel tower to Conflans. From here we cruise through the valley of the Oise to Compiegne. From the Middle Ages on, this part of France used to be the center of the French kingdom.
Later we follow the river Aisne to Soissons (battleground during WW1) and Reims with her magnificent gothic cathedral. A canal with a lot of locks brings us to the river Marne, which we will follow downstreams back to Paris. Now we arrive in the real champagne region and you bike straight across the vineyards on the rolling banks of the Marne. On our way we visit the immense champagne cellars in Epernay, the capital of the champagne region, as well as small champagne growers, who will be proud to let you taste their best champagne. We spend a night in Chateau-Thierry, scene of the American battles in World War I. Final destination is Paris, where you will find the Fleur in the Port d’ Arsenal, not far from the Notre Dame.
On this tour you’ll feel at home on board the Fleur, a welcoming Boutique ship that accommodates a maximum of 20 passengers.
2. Waltz the Danube: Passau to Budapest and back
Follow the Danube through three of Europe’s most charming capitals on this 8-day tour from Passau to Budapest and back. From the musical and architectural delights of Vienna, to the historical mosaic of Bratislava and finally, to Budapest, the “Paris of the East”, this cycling cruise will take you through magnificent metropolises and splendid unspoiled nature.
By bike you’ll see additional sights such as the spectacular Schlögener Donauschlinge (the Danube’s “Great Loop”) and the UNESCO-listed Wachau Valley, with its rolling hills, dreamy villages and vineyards.
Enjoy the good life aboard the Carissima, a gracious river cruise ship that can accommodate up to 150 passengers in comfort and style.
Good to know: We offer several other Danube tours, including Passau, Budapest, Passau with an alternative itinerary.
3. Fine German wines and rich Roman history: Cochem to Metz
The countryside on both banks of the Moselle on this 8-Day tour from Cochem to Metz is splendid, the cool wines taste deliciously, the picturesque little towns have rich histories and the conditions for cycling are excellent indeed. You follow the river Moselle, partly in Germany, partly in France and partly in Luxembourg, along the endless vineyards and the enchanting old cities like Cochem and Bernkastel. It goes without saying that you can taste the local wine as often as you like.
Then, of course, there is Trier, once an imperial Roman city. You will see the remnants of this glorious past in Germany’s oldest cathedral, amphitheater, the emperor’s throne hall and famous “black gate,” the remains of the ancient city wall.
After Trier you will follow the river Saar to visit charming Saarburg, with the stunning waterfalls in the city center. Then onto Luxembourg, the only Grand Duchy in Europe. It’s strategic position between two super powers (France and Germany) made it a contested area to control over the ages. The last day you cycle in France with her welcoming villages, where the inhabitants are proud of their sweet, smooth wines and golden “Mirabellen” liqueur. The tour end in the city of Metz, with her splendid Gothic cathedral.
You’ll be traveling aboard the Princesse Royal or on the Magnifique III, two premium ships that accommodate a maximum of 40 passengers.
Good to know: We offer a reverse version of this tour, from Metz to Cochem.
There are so many entrancing ways to experience the romance of Europe. Which would you choose?
