Bike and Barge Italy: Amalfi Coast & Gulf of Naples | Deriya Deniz

This is a journey that will take place both on land and on water, investigating the natural treasures and cultural heritage of which the Amalfi Coast and the Gulf of Naples are dense. A cruise on board of a ship that has all the style of the ancient caique, a type of boat that is a legend itself, just as it is the sea under your feet. This tour is not just a matter of watching and observing, but a truly active journey intended to combine navigation and relaxing with cycling along the narrow streets of Capri, Pompeii, Procida, Ischia, and Sorrento. The tour takes place aboard one of the two motor gulets, the Deriya Deniz or the Mariagiovanna, depending on the date of departure. Both boats offer maximum comfort on the inside and large areas on the outside to enjoy  the cruise life, lying on mats and relaxing while lulled by the sea. On both caiques on-board catering is characterized by fresh fish, pasta, meat, cheeses paired with seasonal vegetables and the typical flavours of the Mediterranean Sea.

Day to day program

We wish to specify that this is not a sailing trip. The ship is a motor vessel, it has sails but the navigation is powered by engines.

All distances are “approximate distances” of recommended bike tours.

The captain and the guide reserve the right to make alterations to the itinerary, depending on wind, sea
and weather conditions or organizational requirements.

Day 1 (Sat): Embarkation: Castellammare di Stabia

Embarkation at 6.00 pm. at the Marina di Castellammare di Stabia (NA), welcome drink, dinner and presentation of the program. Night in the port of Castellammare di Stabia.

Day 2 (Sun): Catellammare di Stabia – Pompeii – Catellammare di Stabia (Approx. 14 km/8,4 mi., + 40 mt.) | Catellammare di Stabia – Sorrento

Cycle trip to Pompeii and visit of Pompeii and the Villa dei Misteri. It is the biggest open-air archaeological site of the world. Return journey to the Marina di Castellammare and departure with the Caique towards Sorrento. Walking visit of the town and return to the boat. Overnight on board at the Marina di Cassano in roadstead or in the port in case of bad weather conditions.

Day 3 (Mon): Sorrento – Positano – Amalfi (Approx. 34 km/20 mi., + 700 mt.)

In the morning departure by bike along Sorrento coast. You cross “Passo San Pietro” (St. Peter’s pass) and you enter in the Amalfi coast, where you will cycle along the wonderful road overlooking the sea up to Positano. Its colorful houses have been built in amphitheater shape, overlooking the sea, giving a unique and picturesque aspect to the village. After Positano you continue towards Amalfi, the most powerful Mariner Republic at the end of X century. We suggest the visits to the cloister of Paradise and the church and a walk along the main street that is connected with many narrow streets between white fisherman’s houses. Return to the gullet. You are free for dinner. Overnight in port in Amalfi.

Day 4 (Tue): Amalfi – Minori – Vietri – Cetara (Approx. 27 km/17 mi., + 600 mt.) + alternative Ravello: Approx. 37 km/22,2 mi., + 700 mt.)

From Amalfi you continue your cycle tour along the coast, cycling on the coastal road with some ups and downs overlooking the sea, crossing the villages of Minori, Maiori and Cetara. It is possible to make a deviation and go up towards Ravello, where in the placid beauty of the main square, the Dome dedicated to Saint Pantaleone stands out. The blood of the Saint liquefies every year on 27th July. From the village dominating the sea from 300 mt. above sea level, you can enjoy a view beyond the Gulf of Salerno and up to the Cilento mountains. You return on the road along the coast to finally reach Vietri. You come back to the gullet. Dinner and overnight in the small fishing port of Cetara.

Day 5 (Wed): Cetara – Capri  | Capri – Faraglioni |  Capri – Port of Ischia Casamicciola

Navigation to Capri and disembarkation with the tender in Marina Piccola (Capri). You visit the island on foot, you reach the village of Capri with its famous “piazzetta” and continue to the Faraglioni. From above the cliff you can enjoy a wonderful panorama on the Gulf of Naples dominated by the Vesuvius. In the afternoon embarkation and navigation to Ischia. Overnight in the port of Ischia Casamicciola.

Day 6 (Thu): Ischia – St. Angelo (Approx. 18 km/10,8 mi., + 300 mt.)

Cycling from Ischia port you will cross by bike the west part of the island among the scents and flavors of the Mediterranean sea, crossing little villages. Once we reach the thermal village of St. Angelo, embarkation and overnight in port in Ischia Sant’Angelo.

Day 7 (Fri): Port Ischia St. Angelo – Procida | Procida – Pozzuoli | Pozzuoli – Castellammare di Stabia

We sail up to Procida, walking visit of the town and the San Michele Abbey. Return to the boat to continue to Pozzuoli, in the bay of Naples. We visit on foot the historical city centre of Pozzuoli with a stop at the Roman Amphitheatre, the third biggest amphitheatre of the roman empire. After the visit, return to the boat on foot. We sail up to Marina di Castellammare di Stabia (if necessary, we reach Castellammare by public transport). Overnight in the Marina of Castellammare di Stabia..

Day 8 (Sat): Disembarkation: Castellammare di Stabia

The guests are asked to check out after breakfast, i.e. by 9.00 am..

Natural road steads offer shelter from storms, winds and currents, and are frequently used for naval bases. Exclusively in exceptional cases (unfavorable meteorological and/or sea conditions), for safety reasons, the ship must return in the port also during the nights that are scheduled in road stead. Only and exclusively in this case, the guests will be asked to pay the relative price for the stay in the port. This amount, variable from port to port, will be divided among all the participants of the tour and will be paid directly on site (approx. from €20 to €50 per person per night, subject to changes). One night is scheduled in road stead, but clients will be asked to pay for just one night in port in case the ship cannot stay in road stead.

Participants: minimum 4 pax

Our guide Alex made our boat bike holiday on the Almalfi coast amazing. Unfortunately wind and rough seas grounded us in port for 4 of the days. She was very flexible and adjusted our activities since we could not bike. The boat is very comfortable, and staff helpful. Biking the Almalfi coast was a harrowing […]
