    Traditional Sailing Ships

Stay, eat and sleep aboard a former sailing freighter that, according to modern standards and yet while retaining traditional features and a unique atmosphere, was converted into a sailing passenger ship. The former cargo hold is now a cosy living room, that on some ships exists of two parts. The cabins are generally 2 -, 3 – or 4-person cabins with low and high (bunk/stacking) beds. If you book a cabin with two people, then obviously you sleep with 2 people in the cabin, although the cabin may have 3 or 4 beds. The cabins have a sink and a small closet or storage space for luggage. There is a fully equipped kitchen (galley), several showers and toilets for common use and of course a wonderful outside deck where you can relax and enjoy the sailing. These ships do not offer the standard you're used to in hotels, but are of simpler standard. On the other hand you will be able to enjoy – apart from beautiful cycling tours – the fascinating sailing experience and sun, sea and sails, wind, water and beautiful harbours in a unique atmosphere.

There are different sailing vessels in this area. After booking you will receive a notification, on which ship you will be accommodated. The precise route for a sailing vessel is also dependent on wind and weather. Therefore, the crew may decide to slightly alter the time planning and/or routing of the tour. In all cases, this will be discussed with the passengers. Be prepared for a bit of adventure!

Tour Details Sail and Bike: Danish Baltic Sea | Traditional Sailing Ships

Day 1 (Sat): Embarkation: Kiel (Germany)
Travel to the beautiful German Hanseatic city and harbour of Kiel. The crew will welcome you aboard as from 6:00 PM. In the evening you can walk through town.

Day 2 (Sun): Kiel – Aerø | Aerø (Approx. 20-30 km)
Today the sails will be set and the ship will sail to Marstal on the island of Aerø. There you can explore this harbourtown and/or the surrounding by foot or by bike.

    Day 3 (Mon): Aerø – Soby/Aerø (Approx. 20-30 km)
Cycle tour along the eastern coast on beautiful bike paths to Aerøskobing. Then the bike tour continues to the harbour of Soby on northern end of the island. The ship follows on the waterway from Marstal to Soby or Aerokobing.

    Day 4 (Tue): Soby/Aerø – Fünen | Fünen (Approx. 25 km)
You will sail to the harbour of Faaborg on the island of Fünen, which is connected with the island of See-land with Europe’s longest suspension bridge. During your cycling tour you will visit the western part of the island around Faaborg. Because of its many manors, mansions and small castles, Fünen is also known as „island of 100 mansions“. Not as comfortable as the mansions was the prison, which was used until 1989 and is open to visitors now.

Day 5 (Wed): Fünen – Svendborg (Approx. 15-30 km)
Today you will cycle along the water and through light hilly landscape to harbour town Svendborg and then on to the peninsula to Troense. This center of shipbuilding once was the home of the famous German writer Berthold Brecht. Instead of cycling you may opt to stay on board and enjoy sailing to the next harbour.

Day 6 (Thu): Svendborg – Langeland: Rudkøbing/Bagenkop (Approx. 15-30 km)
Today’s goal is Rudkøbing or Bagenkop on the island of Langeland. The bike tour takes you from Troense over the huge Sundbridge to Rudkobing, or depending on the weather, to Bagenkop. Langeland has some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Denmark. Over 120 kilometers of beautiful coast with long Sandy beaches and bays are interspersed with orests, meadows, small villages and harbour towns. The ship will sail through the picturesque Svendborg-Sund to Rudkøbing.

    Day 7 (Fri): Langeland: Rudkøbing/Bagenkop – Kiel
Today you will return by ship to the harbour of Kiel: Enjoy this last day of sailing, before the ship arrives in Kiel in the afternoon. Depending on the time, you might have the possibility for a last bike tour along the fjord of Kiel in the direction of Holtenau or in the city of Kiel.

    Day 8 (Sat): Disembarkation: Kiel
After breakfast, around 10:00 AM: say goodbye to your fellow travelers and to the crew: end of the tour and disembarkation.
