Enjoyable Cycling Holiday Enjoyed the trip. The barge was well appointed and the cabin’s quite spacious. The food was very good, especially the international menus, and catered for all tastes. Although I found some of the longer trips taxing, I completed them all with relatively few aches and pains.

Lena Maria is just fantastic. Klaas (our guide) is just the best!! Lars is an absolute Master Chef!! Cabins lovely and clean!! Thoroughly recommend!! E-bike make the bike riding so much more relaxing! !

We loved the boat Lena Maria and the crew (Conny, Robin, Lars, and Klaas). The food was outstanding. It was rated as easy (level 1) but turned out to be moderate. Changes had to be made because of low canal/water levels, and that was understandable – as a result, there was only 1 choice of route each day, and some were more km than anticipated.

We took the Hanseatic Tour on the Gandalf. It was like being among family – small, intimate yet room for privacy if wanted. The staff were helpful and capable: the cook was off for the week and Captain Hans Petrus prepared most of the meals. Our tour guide was terrific – the cycling pace was manageable in spite of our ages and his knowledge of Holland, past and present, made for interesting days.

Everything went like clockwork in a very relaxed way! Our small group of 14 might have been the reason. The dinners were top notch and special every day. Breakfasts and our boxed lunch systems were very good too. It gave us needed calories for pushing the heavy bikes and the selection was large and perfect for the varied tastes. We wished the bikes were lighter and the seats were more comfortable. I am short so I felt the handlebars were too high and couldn’t be adjusted. We observed that e bikes make riding a different experience for some of us with regular bikes. We liked the shorter options which were perfect to view the forest, water, animal and tourist sights. Our bike tour leader Thomas was well organized and always had good advice. He was very encouraging and knowledgeable and kept us moving safely with planned rest stops. We enjoyed our conversations with him. Everyone on the boat crew was wonderful too and made our week very enjoyable. Chef Lars’ passion for cooking was fully evident in the delicious and varied creations every night! All in all, a fantastic experience! Our first boat and bike trip! We have just completed the Hanseatic Tour on the Gandalf between June 23 and 30th. We can say, without reservation, that this was a fantastic tour and would recommend to anybody who wants to experience the real Netherlands. The guide, Fred, was excellent and very knowledgeable of the area. The Gandalf was a home away from home with great crew, accomodation, and absolutely amazing food. This is our second tour with Boat Bike Tours and certainly won’t be the last. Dave and Christina Musselwhite ( Canada )

1) it should be made clear that the shorter route option is unguided 2) Food and boat excellent 3)would have appreciated more history of Hanseatic towns in English. We were in German group 4)Dining seating flexibility would be better. 4)Boat crew excellent

We had a wonderful trip aboard the Gandalf barge and a fantastic Hanseatic bike tour. The captain, Hans was amazing as was his crew. Terrific food and service. Our bike guide Meindert was the best- engaging, knowledgeable and did a great job leading the tour group.

My bike was in need of repair (saddle post did not stay in position). and was not adequately repaired until last day. Someone else’s bike was also in need of repair with regard to shifting.
