Restrictive and punitive cancellation policies …

I have to review my experience with this Boat and Bike tour company. We booked this trip with 2 other couples for June 2022 from Mainz to Cologne which would be our third bike tour using different tour organizers. This is the first tour we needed to cancel because we were informed our daughter would be delivering a baby in the same time frame. When I contacted the Boat & Bike tour company for a refund I was expecting some sort of cancellation fee but not a 20% fee for the entire cost of the tour. We deposited $767.40 and the tour cost was $2,398.00. My refund would be $255.80 and the tour was to begin on 6-18-22 and we cancelled on 2-24-2022. I don’t want to cry over a cancellation cost but only inform the touring public on this industries policies for cancellation. I would hope this review helps to inform you and perhaps cause you to confirm costs and make informed decisions about how you travel and what questions to ask as you book. This may be our last attempt on using a tour industry that has such punitive policies and such inflexible companies. Scott S.04-07-2022
Thank you for your review. We are very sorry that you are not happy about our cancellation policy. You correctly explain in your review that the cancellation costs are a percentage of the tour price. This percentage increases when the travel date gets closer. In your case we charged the 20% cancellation fee correctly. This policy is common practise in the entire tour operating industry to cover costs of cancelled bookings. We are also offering cancellation insurance that could cover these fees.
